5.4l camshaft issue
5.4l camshaft issue
hello and thank you for taking your time and reading this!
i am currently re-timing my truck as yes you know the phasers and other small things needed attention!
drivers side cam shaft rear lobe was badly worn due to failed roller follower (clicking noise like mad) passenger side is fine and peachy. So i got a replacement for drivers side cam but the issue i am having is there are two different part numbers on each cam also the notches on the cam guide are different.
bad camshaft # rf-5l1e-6c255-da
potential hopeful camshaft # rf-5l13-625i-da
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks again for looking!

I wonder if the plant that made the engine may have slightly different versions . I am always shocked at the engine differences between plants . . I have pulled and reinstalled Both my cams during timing jobs. I replaced all rollers and followers and I slowly tightened and torqued them back down in sequence with rollers in place . But I'm not sure what the guides are. I do know the cams are different side to side. I do know all the parts have to go back exactly how and where they came out .. The cams must be different on the 08 heads ? They changed the sparkplugs on those .
I can't even visualize the cams now its been awhile .
I always wondered how you dealt with the cam journals if you had to replace cam . I know some places line bore the heads and put bearings in , to me that's a whole different world I haven't touched . .
Hopefully some one has a lot of experience with your question and will fill in a proper answer .
Ford tech malukoco would know .

it's an 06, 07 in that range only months of difference.
the front of the cam just after the phasers the first cam holder( or whatever its called, the largest one on the cam right after the phaser) but on the cam the notches are different then the one i have, and that cam hold goes over it to hold it down, no idea if that makes a difference!
the part numbers are just not the same and the truck i pulled it from is and 07 like mine same drivers side but i would just like some clarity on it, i have googled it to death and only thing i have found is the cam i have to replace it with goes in a mustang 4.6l and the other (passenger cam) has the same model number as the stang.
is it weird or what!

07 was the change over year for heads , I think it was sometime in november 07 they went to 08 heads .. There has been running threads on just that , plugs/boots are different for one . you have to check the date code on the pillar .
I haven't changed cams . There are some parts guys on here or you need to go to dealer and get numbers worked out. A auto machine shop who does heads might have an answer. Sorry . maybe they can shed light on journals/bearings . I would like to know in case I lose a cam .
I have heard the junk yards get stripped of the passenger cam because it gets worn out first .
