FL1995 vs FL1995–A

Hey everyone. So I went to Wally World and they no longer stock the FL1995 filters only FL1995-A so I placed an order with RiffRaff for some FL1995’s and when they showed up they were the FL1995-A’s. Good to go or are these different?? What is the A that I’m not used to seeing??

They look shorter but I’m not certain on that. Should I run them or send them back? Truck is an E99 F250 Superduty 7.3. Thanks for any help!

Andrew

That’s new. I ordered one from them about a month ago and it was the same old one.

I don’t think there is any difference, looks to me like they changed contractors making it because it is a new box, and the crimping on the top of the filters looks different. Basically I don’t think any of it matters.

FWIW, Rockauto is showing both as options for my 2001, and lists the FL1995 as an alternate for the FL1995A. A few pennies difference in price. Curious.

FL1995-W, FL1995-A, FL1995.... the confusion continues...

The box is nicer, actually sealed.

Years back the filter was cellophane sealed.

Man I don’t know what to think. I’m going to call RiffRaff tomorrow and hopefully get some more info.

Here’s a few pics…

They're the same size.

Other than markings and a new flat gasket, rather than bevelled in the non-A model, I can't tell the difference. Filter and box both say "Majority of content made in USA."

This one's going on the Ex mid-week. Not sure what the reservation here is to use it. And if Clay is stocking them, I'd be more inclined to trust it.

Good post, I had the same question. I pick up the "A" and am doing an oil change in the next few days, I too was confused why the change. I guess if it fits and it filters then there is nothing to worry about.

Open the 2 types of filters and compare the guts and see if anything inside changed

I read a post a little while ago, the A is the new 1995 filter. If you look inside through the large hole in the top, you should see a difference in the metal sleeve I think it was. One has holes the other has slots or something like that. In the end I don't think it matters.
Anything Motorcraft seems to be getting cheaper and cheaper and now made in China too.

This thread inspired me to check my stock on hand... bought when Motorcraft was Motorcraft. No A's, ands, or W's about it.

Still have a dozen left!

That's over a decade's worth of oil changes at 3K intervals, if past usage is predictive of future use.

PS... I miss the "racier" Motorcraft packaging.
