That is interesting. I'll check my 56 Ford Truck Dealer Handbook. I know in 53-56 F100 hubcaps were painted argent and 53-55 F250 caps were stainless. If this is correct info for 1956 models, perhaps Ford had a huge stockpile of stainless three quarter ton hubcaps and they ran out of stainless and used painted steel caps.
My 52s hubcaps were left upside down in a leaky roof shed for dacade and were riddled with holes.20 or so hours to bring em back they were sandblasted and body worked. painted ford argent silver they look great on a set of 15x7 steelies.
Could this be an error in the '56 Full Line brochure? I've never seen the '56 style F 250 hubcap painted argent silver, they all seem to be chrome.
I found the same thing in my 56 Full Color Catalog. I never noticed that before.
The 56 Dealer Handbook doesn't solve this. In the F250 Extra Cost Accessories and Options it just says "Hubcaps". It doesn't say stainless nor painted steel.
Thanks for your reply, Abe. That's what I always thought, hubcaps were optional on F 250's, and the only optional hubcap for the F 250 was stainless or chrome. I personally prefer the look of painted argent hubcaps over stainless or chrome and wonder if we now have the artistic license to paint '56 F 250 hubcaps and say, " yes, they came this way".
