Abe, working on my 52 F-1 and I took am looking for hubcaps.
From the discussion that was going on S/s vs. painted, the 52 would have had a painted cap. All the repo ones are S/S.
Would you buy a S/S cap, have it sandblasted and then painted. Looking for suggestion.
That's a good question. I didn't. Maybe someone that knows more about body work and painting and the properties of stainless and paint adhesion will pop in and answer that.

My own conclusion along with my friend’s, who specializes, in 51/52 was that it was stainless.
However if I wanted a painted cap I’d bring them to my body
shop and they could paint them with the right stuff better and cheaper than I could. Short of that scuff/sandblast, apply a high adhesion STIX primer and spray them silver, hand paint letters red, done.
Publicity photos are usually dolled up, most all '53-'56 original period photos show the painted cap. However, dealers or owners could have installed a stainless accessory parts dept. cap to add some glitz
I would be afraid of a painted one, seems like it would be easy to chip the paint on the edges. Even with a wheel genie getting one off that fits properly is a nerve racking ordeal to avoid scratching the wheel.
If you did paint over the stainless, I would use a high quality primer and paint proven for durability on stainless.
I think the chrome in that time period was spotty too. The NOS letters and dash trim I used, I had them redone by a place up in Nashville. If you touch them you have to wipe them down, they are like mirrors.
What brand Argent Silver are people using Other than the motor craft? The closest Ford dealer is well over an hour away and when I called they I had no idea what I was asking about.

Thanks!
I use a my local body shop's supply house. They're more than happy to sell to me. Just ask for a Ford Argent Silver in a spray can. I keep Meadow green and Ford black handy in a spray can and they both spray out really well almost like a professional job.
Yes, it is deluxe version of the F 100, larger side hood emblem and stainless rain gutter, it has painted caps. Almost looks like a glossy aluminum color.
I think just an excuse to put another Meadow green truck out there! 😆 Isn’t that one is an F100 or has had the rear end replaced? Or did they use a different differential for that year. Mine has the big hubs, no hubcap over those…
Thanks for the correction. Now the question is what color is the background lettering, red or blue?
I will probably just get the reproductions in the link above.
