I have them on every truck I have owned since early 90s. I think they do protect the hood and to some extent the windshield. I remove it once a year and wash and wax under it. My concern is many of the new deflectors just stick to the hood instead of mounting to the underside.
I have a factory hood deflector on my 2019 and really like it, dorky or not. Certainly helps with bugs and paint chips.
Sure does! I've always had one as well, but the low profile type where you basically can't tell it's even there, especially a black deflector on a black truck. I'll be getting one for my 2022 when it arrives.

The picture I posted above is a stick on deflector. That picture was taken back in Feb/March of 2016, and I still have that deflector on today, until I trade that truck in on the 2022 I have on order.
I guess I fall in the unhip crowd (figures though now that I am in my 60's), one of the first things we put on after purchase. We had an '88, after 5 years the front edge and surface of the hood looked terrible. The last couple of trucks, I have added them.

Looks great! Any whistling noise from the deflector?

I have the Ford factory deflector and there is zero noise on my rig (posted above). The Ford deflector is incredibly low profile and has the stoutest assembly brackets I've ever seen for such a product -- all metal fasteners and bracketry. I think it's around $180 (FordPass points for me), but it's worth it. Really, really sturdy. But there is almost no profile to it. That's probably good for noise, but it may not be as effective at redirecting debris.
ordered mine this morning
at my dealer, should be here friday morning
all us old non hip guys are dominating this thread
time to use up some of the 70k ford points
If you think a deflector makes you look odd, old, and outdated, you would hate my setup. 😆 I can say this much, the combo of the bumper and deflector has greatly reduced the amount of bugs hitting the windshield. Side mirrors can be covered but windshield is rather clean.
I want a black OEM one for my black truck and then put the brushed "super duty" letter inlays in it. Should blend in mostly, but still match the low-pro window deflectors I put on. I'm 33 and don't care if it's hip or not. If I wanted hip I'd trade in my F-450 on a Tremor, then airbag it so it doesn't squat when towing.
