Been driving new Super Duty's since 2017. Currently have a 2019 F350 with a 6.7.
Took a drive today and test drove a new Ram 2500 Mega Cab. All I can say is WOW!!!!
What a nice ride. Made me really think about what my next truck is going to be.
Good friend of mine has an '18 Laramie Mega cab. I have driven this truck a lot. If I was in the market for a four door diesel, Ram would get a hard look. They are nice trucks and the Cummins is a great engine. Since Ford is the only one offering a supercab with a powerful gas engine and a solid front axle, that is what I have ordered.
Been in my RAM 2500 Mega cab for 6.5 years and 608K miles.
The big back seat area is great, put a mattress back there and have spent quite a few nights there when out on the road.
The Cummins is a stout package, but RAM only offers the high output engine in the 3500, so that leaves me out.
My Cummins did give me a couple of very expensive break downs, if not for the extended warranty I would have been in real trouble.
Also, the transmissions are still only 6 speeds, and although mine has held up flawlessly, its shift quality is lacking.
Also, for me, I only want 2WD, and RAM no longer offers the Mega cab in 2WD, so that also leaves me out.
I am so looking forward to my new F250 with 1050 TQ and the 10 speed, going to be a towing terror, and the back seat area is almost as big as the RAM Mega cab.
I have to wonder why they still offer the Mega Cab? Both Ford and GM offer crew cabs that have more space. Even the current ( Non Classic) Ram 1500 offers more space in the cab. A Ram HD CCLB is only 6inches longer then a Ford SD CCSB bumper to bumper.
While I like where and how far Dodge has come, I still have my reservations on the quality. Maybe this is unwarranted. I do think they have a nice looking design to them.
Wait...so you're comparing your 350 with leaf springs and probably double the payload capacity of a Ram 2500 with coil springs? There's a huge difference in ride, of course! There's a huge difference in capacity. You're comparing apples and oranges. If you don't need 350 capacity, the 2500 is probably fine. The F150 or even 1500 may be ok too. But surely don't expect the Ram 2500 to be able to do the work your 350 can.
By the way, I'm not loyal to either brand. I currently have a Ram 2500, but have an F450 on order. I love my old Ram truck. I've been really happy with it overall, but it just doesn't meet my current needs. Ram doesn't offer anything like the F450, so... Ford it is (my first).
