CAC Boots

I’m having a bit of an annoying problem. I have blown the hot side boot at the intercooler on the pipe side 3 times in the last 3 days. At this lower altitude I’m seeing boost numbers around 28. I called ahead to an overnight destination and had a new set of boots ordered, but they didn’t fit. All they could find was the Dorman parts. Each time it blows I lose a little more of the inner liner.

Any chance one of the East coast brethren has a set they can part with? Right now I’m in Pell City Alabama headed for Aiken SC. I’ll be staying there for 3 days.

Is your boot 3x3 or 3x3.25? I have a 3x3 for the spider to tube side boot that might work for you. I also have some T-bolt clamps you can have.

Have you tried brake cleaner on the boot and mounting surface?

There is a Summit Racing in McDonough you could probably walk into and get what you need.

I am in Hartwell GA off I-85 exit 177 if you are coming this way and think I can help, let me know. We are headed to the mountains today to the SSJ ranch, but I can meet you someplace late today or tomorrow if needed.

You have my number, call or text if you would like.

My problem boot is the 3x3.25. I would like to change them all. I have Riff Raff plenum boots so I’m good there. I’ll check on the place in McDonough. It’s close enough to divert for the right parts. Thanks Sous!!

I checked with Summit, they didn’t have anything close. We made it to Aiken without another blow out. I’ll check B&W on Monday. Time to just relax for a bit after 7 days of driving.

I thought for sure Summit would have had one...

I carry a can of brake cleaner and a 24" extension for a 3/8" ratchet with me now after I had a repeated boot pop off on I-26 near where you are now.

Brake cleaner has always worked well for me, but some prefer not to use it.

Enjoy your down time sir.

When installing the new boots make sure everything is spotless clean, and use hair spray to lube the boots. It will harden up like glue to help retain the boots.

A local Bearing shop has clamps and boots for heavy equipment. If you need something let me know…

This is a good idea too.

Capt'n, if you are unable to find anything near Aiken SC, I could check some of the local places around here. There is even an International shop in Greenville and a Peterbilt down I-85.

There are Ford dealers all over the place as well. PHP, DP Tuner, etc are just 45 minutes away from my home... My point is there is something local to you/us that will work well for you.

I could deliver the parts to you in Aiken if you need so that you are not waiting days for parts to be shipped cross country if that doesn't fit your travel schedule.

Wow, this group is amazing!

I used some brake clean on the boot the last time it blew off and haven’t had a problem since. I’ll check out the truck shop here in Aiken today and see what they have available.

I did call several of the Ford dealers along the way, they all said the part was back ordered and couldn’t help.

I’m confident I can find something before we move to the next location.

Stand by…….
I was just about to shoot you a text to see if you needed in person/on site help this morning! Check the clamp tightness after a couple of heat cycles until it settles in.

I always do this when I need to break the seal on the CAC system.

Easy fix, but we are here to help along the way if needed.

B&W wasn’t quite what I expected…..

They did come up with a boot that will work as a back up in case I need it. I just ordered a full set from Riff Raff that I’m having sent to my sons in Wisconsin. We’ll be there on Friday so I only have a couple more driving days to worry about.

Definite thank you to all the offers for help! @Sous I almost took you up on your offer to deliver just so I had the chance to meet you!

Clay has been known to come through for many of us in a pinch.

No worries sir, there will be a time when our paths cross again and we can hang out for a bit. We go out west every couple of years and usually go through CO and WY and then NV, NM and TX sometimes.

Remember to check the clamps after a heat cycle on the new boots. That will help them settle in to a "permanent" holding position.

Safe travels!
