The pats system has to enable pcm to allow crank and run . You can jumper crank but getting pcm to send signals to cops and injectors is a whole other story .

What if I took my ignition and computer from another truck or would I have to just put in a new ignition and have a garage reset the computer to match it ???

The pats module has to have a match between the key head electronics and the one stored in the pcm . I hear you can get a pcm company to delete the pats function in the pcm . The mechanical key cut is not the problem . The transciever around the head slot sends what it reads to the pats then it checks for a match with the pcm .
Talk to one of these companys about sending your unit in to get it set up .

you could go with the PATS delete ............. or go to FORD and ask them to make a key, given the serial number - VIN.

1. They'd need TWO keys to be made/available in order to re-program PATS from scratch. FWIW, any DIYer can do this with Forscan, the proper OBDII interface, and a Windows device.
2. Nope. Too old. ..

What if I took my ignition and computer from another truck or
Yes. You would need the PCM from like truck with the same engine along with its pre-coded key and the ignition cylinder (or work out an arrangement so that the "loaner" key is read instead of the one that fits the original cylinder.

The pats module has to have a match between the key head electronics and the one stored in the pcm .
There is no "PATS-module" in this generation of truck. The PATS function is located solely within the PCM (plus the transceiver which is not part of the coding, it simply serves as the antenna for the system).
