Hard 4-3 downshift when accelerating

Hard 4-3 downshift when accelerating
I have an 04 F150, 5.4. When i am at highway speed and hit the gas it will vibrate and thump in to passing gear. The truck sits a lot. I'm thinking it j7st needs a new clutch pack. Any thoughts or other possibilities?

I will 2nd bigwin's answer....I drive commercially & every time I had hard down shifts & upshifts it was time to change the fluid ..
.My 02 647,000 km's & 07 424,000 km's did this constantly...
.It got so I put a drain plug in the pan & swapped out just the pan fluid about every 5-6 oil changes !
Never ever had a tranny failure with any F150 !!
