I have a '62 F100 uni. I replaced the core support with a piece from NPD (not that It matters where I bought it) anyway on final assembly I wasn't able to get the stone shield to go low enough for the grill to fit. I ended up cutting most of the mounting flange off both sides. I already had to hog out the five holes in the center in order to get the stone guard to line up with the holes in the center of the core support and now I will have four less bolts holding it on. I haven't retried to see if it will go together, I had to repaint the panel. I will attempt that later today.
I am wondering if anyone else has had this same problem.
I would like to post a picture but I am not capable at this point in time (don't know how).
We used a core support from Dennis Carpenter on my 66’ & had to MAJORLY modify the stone guard & hog out some holes as well. Still need to hog out the holes for the hood latch supports. A 6” grinder with a cut off wheel is sometimes a man’s best friend
I got the grill to fit today after the mods I made to the stone shield. I am sorry that I am NOT the only person to enjoy this particular part. I will be in contact with NPD, I'm sure that I will get nothing but lip service for but I have to complain none the less.
DC certainly blew me off for buying the "Chrome mirror" that was supposed to fit my truck.
BUYER BEWARE!!!!
I got one from Carpenter about 5 years ago. I had to get a friend to push in on the stone guard on the drivers side to get the bolts started. But other than that everything lined up correctly. Other than finding and original rust free one for $500+ shipping they are the only game in town. I knew a body man that had worked for Ford in the stamping dept. for a few years back in the 70's. He said the problem with the re-pop sheet metal is when Ford was making it they had people who checked the dies and jigs for wear and alignment every day. The people making them in Taiwan don't. If you get the first part of the run you might get a good one. If it is in the last of the run, not so much.
