96 Cooling Question

When the Max AC dial option is selected, is it normal for the red & blue temperature dial to NOT adjust the temperature to warm up the cold air a little?

My understanding is that the only 'vent' option that recirculates the air as opposed to fresh air is the Max AC option, which I prefer the recirculating when I'm on the highway with nasty smelling diesel trucks. But the Max AC sometimes is too cool when it's not that hot outside.

The Max AC is the only setting that recirculates the air, all others bring in outside air. When you have the Max AC on the valve in the heater hose closes and cuts off the coolant flow to the heater core so you can't warm the air, this is the only setting that does this.
