I had to replace the timing chain on my 1977 F150 (351m). I had a biatch of a time getting the section of gasket to seat where the timing cover meets the oil pan. I (finally) got it all back together and now it's spraying oil from the crank seal, and probably that gasket as well.
Are there any tricks to getting that gasket replaced properly? Any tips on seating the crank seal? Hoping to get it right this time.
Allow the crank seal to center itself before tightening the cover bolts. The area where it meets the oil pan is a place that's often hard to seal. You might have to use some goop in a tube.
Remove the oil pan. Install the timing cover, then install the oil pan.
Yup you have to drop the pan on the 335 series engines to get clearance to install the timing cover, once that is done you align the cover with the damper.
