Does the snow plow prep pkg on a F250 XLT 4x4 increase the ride harshness? I understand the prep pkg adds heavier springs up front. Too me, that would indicate a harsher ride.
Just wondering if anyone has that pkg, and if the ride is noticeably harsher.
I test drove both with and without snow plow prep. The front is a bit stiffer over small bumps/expansion joints but not bad. I bought the one w/ Snow plow prep because it has a more leveled look (front sits about 1" higher in the front), and I bought the truck primarily for towing (heavier front springs help, especially with a WDH). On a daily basis when not towing I don't really notice it. Worth saying that I have been a sports car guy for many years so I am probably less sensitive to cars with a stiffer ride than many people.
I do on my xl and it does a little, I have since put fox shocks on and it's an improvement over the stock. At the end of the day they are HD trucks and ride like it, but growing up driving them and heavy equipment I don't really care about it compared to say my wife's Pilot. Drive both and see for yourself if you can find them around to compare. Hope this helps
I traded a 2016 F250 6.2 with the plow prep package for an F350 7.3 also with prep package. The 250 had a very stiff almost uncomfortable ride. The 350 rides like you would expect a truck to ride but MUCH better than the 250. I went with Bilstein's to try and improve the ride slightly on the 250 but it didn't help much. I'm not sure why the 350 rides so much better than the 250...
Heavier duty springs should feel firmer if the truck doesn't have the heavier weight. My 2019 6.2 250 XLT with plow springs rides great to me. When I compare my truck to our same cab/bed work trucks 6.2 250 XL without plow springs I don't notice a difference and the work trucks always have some extra weight. Both my girlfriend and two buddies all have either F150 or Silverado and they all think my truck rides great too. I have read a lot of forum members here say they feel the stiffness from the plow springs. Very subjective.
I added the snow plow/camper package to my 22 F250 and had some thoughts about how stiff it may ride, but several comments I have seen said that if you go with the 6.7 motor it’s not as noticeable as if it were on a lighter 6.2 motor. I wanted the extra suspension since I will tow a small camper often times but it’s still likely overkill. I also wanted the dual alternators and this was one route to get those.

If I should have to buy a new truck to replace my current F150 w/ HD Pkg, it'd probably be an F250 w/ 7.3L engine.
My F150left me on the side of the road last weekend. If it does that one more time, it's gone. Otherwise, I'd much prefer to keep it.
My 2019 6.2 powered truck with the snow plow springs rides great. It's not as smooth as an F150 but it's twice the truck also, I took it on vacation two weeks ago and put 1500 miles on it in 5 days and never got fatigued from riding in it for 4-6hrs at a time.. My old truck was a 2013 without the plow springs and I think that truck rode rougher, but it was a reg cab so it's not a fair comparison.

Marcm15 is spot on. 2018 F250 6.2 with plow prep has 5600# front axle and 75 psig recommended tire pressure. 2021 F350 SRW 7.3 without plow prep has 4800# front axle and 60 psig recommended tire pressure. You can tell the difference in ride between the two trucks. Philip.

Like Marcm15 I had a 2012 F250 with snow plow package, I just replaced the 2012 with a 2021 F350 7.3, its an identical truck to the F250 with the exception of a engine & camper package. The 2021 ride is better than the 2012 F250. The only time in my opinion that the ride sucks is on some concret highways with the cuts in the road. What one person feels as stiff/ rough might be another persons feel as smooth/ comfortable. These are trucks and meant to haul and tow loads with the possible offset of a "stiff/ rough" ride.
I just finished installing lighter springs in my 21, 7.3, Lariat Ultimate. (thread here) I went from a 5600 spring to a 4800 spring. I installed an OUO adjustable level lit at the same time to make up for the difference in ride height with the softer springs. I have it adjusted for 1" of rake in the front. No shock changes yet. I have adjustable remote resi Fox 2.0 from Accutune on backorder. I don't notice a difference with just the coil swap, but for $120 it can't hurt. I think it will just help the shock perform better once I have them.
I also installed Caster Shims. That made a noticeable difference.
I had Bilstein 5100's (front) and remote resi's 5160's (rear) on my Tundra. They were fine - actually the 5160 were pretty nice for a while. But they were not rebuildable, didn't last too long and as mentioned, a worthless warranty. Going to give Fox a try with this truck.
