snow plow package question

first of all, how do f150s plow?

they offer the package, and with it, you have to get the heavy payload package as well.

does this make the right rougher or does it not change it much?

All I can say is that I pay someone to plow my driveway, which is where I park my 09 F-150..

Oh the HD springs will make the ride rougher for sure. I have had good luck plowing. I plow mine and 2-3 others, haven't had any problems. I imagine the 09' would perform about the same if not better.

If its just your driveway, and you don't live in North Dakota then I would say you would probably be better off just paying to have someone do it.

I don't think you could get a plow package from the factory on a 150. Only the SD has a plow prep package that I know of.

There is a Snow Plow Prep Package available on the XL and the XLT regular cab or supercabs. Includes "upgraded springs."

It does require the Heavy-Duty Payload Package, as one would imagine.

That's why i didn't see it. I tried to build an XLT Scab and I couldn't find the package listed.

Per the 2010 F-150 Order Guide (07/01/09):

SNOW PLOW PREP PACKAGE (62S)
Usage:
Increases GVWR
Availability:
  • Requires Heavy Duty Payload Package (627)
  • 4x4 only
  • Maximum snow plow weight, including permanent attachments: See Bodybuilders Layout Book for more details)
  • Regular Cab 750lbs. (700lbs. plow + 50lbs for permanent attachment)
  • Super Cab 610lbs. (560lbs. plow + 50lbs for permanent attachment)
Includes:
  • Spring upgrades
NOTE: Restrictions apply; see your dealer for more information.
If you look up the Heavy Duty Payload Package, it is limited to XL & XLT trim levels....among other limitations.

Judging by the weights listed on the 4th & 5th bullet points, I am assuming that those are the plow weights referenced on the 3rd bullet point. However, I am not sure what the "Restrictions apply" note indicates.

As others have stated, 4x4 + heavy duty payload package = will definitely put you into ride quality belonging to a truck.

Outstanding points all around. These days they make fiberglass and or carbon fiber plow blades with minute mount hardware which eliminates most if not all of the hydraulics. They had to do something to reduce the weight when the truck makers took the 1/2 ton solid front axles away and at the same time made them ride as nice as a car.

Ok guys i have a question. What happens when you plow a road and there's an exposed drain cover sticking out the road by a few inches? I seen so many like that around this area and we get some good snow here at times. Wouldn't it mess up the plow blade? or worse damage the truck?

Bsimmer...most modern plows are either trip edge or trip blade design...so...unless you're a mainiac...you shouldn't cause any damage to your plow or truck.

To the original poster...an F-150 with plow package upgrade not only rides very similar to an F-250...it costs nearly the same also.

Not only would I not mount a plow to a 1/2 of today, I'd get a 4x4 ATV and a blade or blower attachment, more fun.
