Radiator overflow tank level

What level are you running on yours? Mine seems to be at the minimum or below all the time . I had the dealership look at it when I had a recall done and they said it looks normal. Looks too low to me .
Forgot to mention it’s a 2020 F450 diesel with around 26k on it .

Has it been topped up and then drops back down to the minimum level, or has it just been at the lower level all along?

There should be a hot and cold level mark on it.

Never been topped off as far as I know. Has seemed low since new . Doesn’t seem to matter if it’s cold or hot all ways at the minimum level or below.

Mine was at the low mark when new. I keep them closer to the max mark.

In the past trucks I’ve had they will run slightly below mid level . That will leave room for expansion when fluid gets warm.

I thought mine looked low, so I bought a gallon of premixed Motorcraft coolant (yellow). When I checked, the engine was cold and had not been started for days. When I checked the level while fueling up (very warm engine, towing for hundreds of miles) it was right at the max level. False alarm, coolant is now on the shelf and not in the truck.

Mine seems to be a little below the minimum level all the time even after pulling my 5thwheel. I’ll monitor it a few days and see where it is before adding more .

Do you smell coolant? There were a few 2017 trucks where the owner could smell coolant. The T fittings on the lines that sit on top of the engine were leaking. You could see the residue at the fitting. I haven't heard of that problem on the newer trucks.

No coolant smell , very familiar with that . I had an 2004 6.0 with its issues and a 2012 6.7 that had a leaking turbo coolant line .

I heard many didn't have the clamps crimped enough from the factory. I notice the smell of coolant for a few seconds after shutting my truck down. I haven't dug into it too far yet, but don't see anything obvious. I know a guy who says he also smells it on both his 550's(18,19) with 6.7l.

Rodney @System had the leaking coolant fittings on his 2017 and the dealer repaired it as I recall.

Yep, there were a lot of us in 2017 with the very slow coolant leak above the alternator due to bad crimp hose clamps. It would leak so little that what did, evaporated when it hit the alternator so no one knew where it was going for a while. But we all had the coolant smell which the OP says he doesn't so probably just a short factory fill. I would just top it up and watch it to see if it disappears again.
