Once I saw the pitch change in the threaded area used as the control or “weaker of two springs” (the shank being the higher rate spring) and the consistency of thread formation, I found I could use the pitch as the length change. I thought I was going to have an issue if they rolled the thread after hardening, but it looks like the manufacturer rolled before - so the thread area yields first.
