2001 A/C Evaporator

I'm going to replace all the A/C components, except for the evaporator, on my 2001 F150. I bought Motorcraft compressor #YCC214, and it comes with 7 oz. of oil inside. The instructions that came with the compressor say to use the oil to make up for what's not already in the system and dump out any that's extra.

The system takes a maximum of 9 oz. of oil. The following link says not to flush the evaporator, since the old compressor didn't come apart, and my system is relatively clean:

http://www.teamec.be/cms_files/Flush...eaning(EN).pdf

I have a leak in the existing compressor, and I can see some compressor oil has leaked out. I'm not sure how much.

My question is, how do I know how much PAG oil to add, since I'm unsure how much typically is present in the evaporator? I'm thinking perhaps it holds about 2 oz. and I can install the compressor with all 7 oz. for a total of 9 oz. But I'm just guessing.

Is there a more accurate method that doesn't require removing the evaporator?

Thanks!

If the stated 7 OZ is indeed already in the compressor, I would add about 1 oz into the line leaving the compressor and call it good. If you have other parts of the system apart you can add the other oz among them. The main thing is not to send a gob of oil into the suction side of the compressor.

If you're replacing everything, you're not left with any oil. What will the evaporator hold? Who knows, but a little more is better than a little less. While you may not want to flush it, I would at least blow it out. Go with the 7oz in the compressor and add the 2 so you'll have the required 9.
