Does anyone know how to get better cfm pressure out of a air compressor rated at 16 cfm @ 90 psi, to get better pressure out for a sandblaster. I'm using a harbor freight 40 lb. model that just wants to push out sand with hardly enough pressure to push anything off. thx
That's a common issue with the pressure pot blasters. There is several good mods that should be done. Your blast media has to be dry and I mean dry. The biggest issue is the gun they include. There is better dead man style guns available. Also the 16cfm is only realistic if you are running 90psi at the pot. Make sure you are using the proper 1/2" fittings and hose or you will not get the rated cfm. To avoid pressure drop you will need higher outlet pressure and you should set it to 90psi with the gun depressed (don't exceed overall staic working pressure of the pot).
Had an urge to chime in. I have a similar set up and found learning to regulate the pressure to the amount of media is important in regulating the lower media supply valve to the pressure pot air flow valve in an effort to obtain the best balance. I also have a HF cabinet blaster so I use the existing hose opening and combine the pot blaster with the cabinet and Oh yea, works very well for me.
As for keeping the media dry, particularly during the winter months I use a 'Golden Rod Wand' and insert it into the pot blaster when not in use?
Use to purchase deadman guns from HF but found Northern Tools offers a much better gun.
Stumbled upon a commercial grade media and blaster supplier relatively close and a great source for various type of media cheap. I had problems with the larger grit media constantly clogging up the nozzle, I keep a skewer close to clear the nozzle. .
Finally, media can travel quite a distance and annoying to neighbors, and invade every orifice known to the human body, suggest protective gear and try confine project. I have a cheap 4X4 enclosed tent I am considering using?
