ok before any replies about hvlp guns, cant afford it and would have to oder one, i have a siphon feed pressure gun cambell hausfied, do i have to regulate the air at the compressor, and what do i set it at, is a inline pressure regulator better or at the gun. please help
An inline regulator is best. Make sure the pressure is regulated before you attach the air hose to the gun! 150 psi will cause damage to yout gun and may injure you!
Generally the pressure depends on the material being sprayed, usually about 30-

Your tech sheets for your product should have a suggested pressure. Usually there is a listing for both a conventional and hvlp guns.
For example, Diamont basecoat is listed as 45 - 55 psi for a conventional gun.
Your paint vendor should have the tech sheets (also called p-sheets). You need to get a copy. It will give you necessary information such as, flash time, recoat time, & mixing ratios. If he can't get them, let me know. I may be able to locate them on the web.
Your pressure should be checked at the gun, not the compressor. Air pressure drops in the hose. The longer the hose, the greater the drop. I use a regulator at my gun. Others just use a pressure gauge (at the gun) and make adjustments at the compressor. By the way, you measure the pressure while pulling the trigger.
