Maybe its cool to understand how the AWD actually works on the Maverick ! It appears to measure wheel slippage and adapts to what the front wheels slip !
Maybe AWD is a misnomer & just maybe it is to become an actual rear wheel differential assist if needed in extreme situations. (More to come Later ) The quote about the Instrument panel lightning up like a Christmas tree on the Dyno means the Power module it is trying to figure out the hell that slippage is going on !
Tuners are gonna love messing with this for us who expect more !
Unfortunately the turbo is pretty much maxed out right off the get go. On the stock tune the truck in the top end has the turbo at 100% from 5000-7000rpm. So any BIG gains this truck will ever see in it's life is not going to be from airflow it is going to be from timing and running a higher octane fuel or ethanol. This is pretty much the case with all 2.0L Ecoboost engines. Focus ST for example soon as it hits peak torque at 3000rpm, the tune is commanding 100% from the turbo and it just keeps dropping off all the way to redline.
I believe the AWD is based off of the same system in the previous gen Explorer, FWD most of the time with RWD engaging when slip is detected. Obviously the engine and transmissions are different. But is is a well functioning and durable system. You will always feel the front tires slip slightly before the rear gets traction. It isn't seamless, but it works very well and is mostly trouble free.
Its easy to see tuners selling bigger Turbo room and tuned exhausts to work with them & these tough lil trucks ! "Oh Boy ! "
Its great to hear the Tuners are working hard for its performance gains also !
Yep I am willing to spend to have a Hybrid, maybe the Batteries will also enlarge so it becomes an EV most of the time, that makes sense, meanwhile the Electric Truck remains a Foggy day here to avoid.
I just saw my first 'in the wild' Maverick and it was a twin of my own. The first one I saw in person was also my own. It was bigger than I expected. Figured it would be about the same size as my Ranger, but was surprised with the actual thing.
Easiest drive I have ever made on a round-trip to TPA and back. Normally, my neck is stiff and legs are not wanting to straighten out. This was the easiest ever and I got there without any kinks. Got 340-ish miles on ten gallons at the first trip fill. Went from Lake City, FL, to TPA, and back to Macon on the second. Trip 2 showed 38.x mpg when I looked once over the GA line on the way to Macon. I was shocked. With only about 1300 miles on the clock now, the ecoboost is doing a lot better than I expected. And it is so nice to ride/drive. Really have zero complaints except the AutoSS doesn't work regularly.

I am old enough to remember the clamor for the new Mustang. People were willing to pay over MSRP. $2368 was base price, plus shipping, for a two-door coupe.
Back then FoMoCo realized they had a hit, and quickly shifted production at several plants to making the popular pony car. And, they sold a TON. So far, they have produced 3 'hit' vehicles, at least, and have had hobbled production they don't seem to be able to counter. Count 'em: Bronco. Bronco Sport, and Maverick. Had they the agility of 57 years ago, you would be able to walk into about any dealer and have your choice of fitment, color, etc for any of those three. But. Not today.
I doan geddit. Were I holding onto any "F" shares, I would be in their grill at the board meetings...
Think the new Chip factory in Ohio and the Battery plant in Kentucky are meaningful just not this summer !
/enjoying the Hamburger $5 a Lb. BBQ is the summer plans here. Egg Potato Salad and Watermelon !
I think a lot of the issues that Ford is facing right now are supply-chain related and beyond their control. These are the same issues faced by all auto makers right now. Demand hasn't slowed while supply is way down from what it was two years ago. This means that yes, you are going to pay higher prices on anything you buy. It's unfair to blame Ford or any other auto maker for things that are beyond their control. As for the supply chain issues, I believe much of it is politically motivated.
I am interested in the Maverick, if primarily for the relatively affordable price. But I'll wait a couple years. For now I just picked up a used Edge AWD and need to get that paid down.
Spotted a White one at my Rural Dealer lot today. Too much to do to stop and check it out close. Maybe Later afternoon Tomorrow I can get over there but the Mommy Day Brunch comes first with the Grandchilds present.
Looks like click bait. There is no current model as the article states, so how can the new one be improved? Looks like a Hyundai Santa Cruz with a Chevy grille photo shopped on it.
