my folks are in their late to mid 70s ..of course mom thinks she is 29.
i break it her she is not every year.
anyway this little truck is perfect for them, they need a bed to haul the junk they buy at garage sales and estate sales, to resale
this vehicle gets me off the hook of having to go fetch junk for them, of which i pretty much have stopped doing. i have lots of reasons, just washed the 250, its raining, the stuff looks heavy, etc etc
Just looked at a Maverick XLT today at our local dealership. I unfortunately didn't get to sit in it yet as they had just gotten it. But, I really like this pickup. It was an XLT with the 2.0l and awd. Perfect size for what I'm looking for in retirement. Looks like a winner to me.
What I have read is that the largest buying demographic for minivans is grandparents. They recognize the utility of a minivan and are not caught up in the "vehicle as a fashion statement" mentality of younger people.
As soon as they started calling drivers of minivans "Soccer Moms", the death of the minivan was inevitable.
My Grand Caravan was by far and away the most practical vehicle that I have even owned. Fold down the 3rd row seat, and it had more room than the bed of the new Maverick. Not any bigger than the Maverick either.
I just did not need it anymore and Carvana gave me a whopping good offer for it.
Minivans do really strange stuff on I-states. Most likely looking at the screen ! If ya got one ahead of you immediately go to the passing lane when safe as soon as you can !
Just test drove the XLT 2.0l awd Maverick that I posted a photo of in the color poll thread. I really like the size and feel of this pickup and can positively say I will get one. It's a perfect complement to my F250 which will be used for bigger jobs. But errands, going to the dump, hauling dogs and a bike are a slam dunk with this.
The transmission didn't feel quite as responsive to me as I thought it might but it seemed to have plenty of power. Road noise was present with the stock tires (chip sealed road) but not intrusive. Visibility is great and the layout of the controls is logical and easy to use. The ride was compliant and not as stiff as I experienced in a Frontier a couple of years ago. That's probably because it's not a traditional truck frame like the Nissan. I also liked the plastic "fender liners" at the rear wheels vs. looking at bare metal like you do with full size trucks. This Maverick didn't have power seats but that's not a big deal to me.
The only other thing to note is the large amount of hard plastics on the door panel and the dash. It looks cheap but I didn't find it offensive at all.
The dealer told me they will try to sell this for $1000 over MSRP. There are dealers in the Seattle area posting them at $3500 to $5000 above MSRP. For what it is I can't say I would pay that and I'll wait a year.
It saddens me that the manufacturers are allowing it's franchisees to play these pricing games. I'd love to see America wake the hell up and say no more and stop shopping for new cars. Let the dealers deal with that.
If used prices weren’t so high, there would likely be hardly any new cars sold right now. The high trade values keep the difference abiut the same. Sometimes better.
The next challenge for car sales and real estate will be interest rates. In my opinion we are past the point of when they should rise. I’m concerned that the rates will rise fast when it happens. Inflation is moving at an incredible pace. If the Fed doesn’t stop the flow of money, prices on everything will be so high that all of us will be poor in comparison. Crazy as it sounds, perhaps that’s the point.
I picked up my Maverick XLT 2.0 AWD yesterday. The ride is much smoother than I expected and the power is excellent. I didn't let the dealer do the usual delivery process because it's easier for me to figure out stuff on my own, but I didn't have any trouble with basic functionality while driving it for the first time. The seats are comfortable and supportive.
I do believe this will be a good option for young families. There's always stuff to take with when the kids are little and that can go in the bed under a tonneau cover. Step-in height is easy for smaller adults and kids. It's roomy but easy to drive and manuever.
Here's the window sticker (there was no dealer markup, just straight MSRP):
