Help with fuel unit

I recently replaced my tank and sending unit and when I went to start it up after about 30 seconds I still wasn’t getting anything so I unplugged the line from the carb and it was dry. I put more gas in the tank and tried again but still nothing. I even replaced the pump and there no fuel getting to the carb. I have blown out my line and everything I just want to ask for some wisdom before I look at dropping the tank. It’s a 1973 f100 360 V8

Thanks,
Travis Clemens

I would disconnect the fuel line feeding the fuel pump, and place the end in a bucket. Pull the gas cap, and use compressed air and shop towels to see if you get flow from the tank. If you do, reconnect to pump. It shouldn’t take much to get fuel to carb bowl if the pump is getting fuel. Also never assume a new pump is good.

Since you only mentioned one tank, I'm assuming the truck only has one tank. Perform the test as suggested and be sure that all connections from the pump to the tank are secure. If there is an air leak somewhere the pump will not be able to get fuel.

I need to get a one-way valve because my gas siphons all the way back to my tank when I shut the truck off. When I start the truck, I press the gas all the way to floor until it starts to pick up. There is usually a little gas left in the carb. I try to use that suction up the gas from the tank.

You can also test the pump by putting the input line into a gas can and see if it picks it up quickly from there.

Have you had a fuel psi gage on it ? One other thing, if you blew back through the line with the hose still connected to the tank you may have blown the sock filter off of the end of pickup tube.
