Have a 1968 f100 , been off the road since 81.
engines free , can turn it by hand but whenever I try to turn it with key the starter grinds, installed a new starter and still grinds and doesn't turn over.
Any advice ?
360 with 3 speed manual

I would pull the starter and look at the flywheel. Make sure the teeth are in good condition. Also try the starter out of the truck and insure the bendix is moving out correctly. Like John said, verify your battery is fully charged and your connections are good.
So after looking under the truck , the starter doesn't engage at all , instead what I was hearing was the starter solenoid kicking around , almost grinding. I assume it's just time for a new solenoid?
