I'm in dire need right now guys! Woke up to go to work this morning & truck won't start. Pretty sure its the starter but want some advise to make sure its nothing more. When I turn the key on everything works like normal. wait to start comes on & off, I have 11.3 volts on the batteries, exc......turn the key over & it just goes click. I tried jumping the solinoid & it does the same thing. I'm pretty sure its the starter but want to check with u guys to see if there is something I'm missing. Thanks
Have you tried neutral? Could be a loose shifter torx screw issue. Although jumping the starter would complely eliminate any switches...if you are directly applying power to the starter then it likely has to be the starter.
Ya I did, even pushed the truck back a little in case something was just hung up. The only thing I'm wondering though is that the starter clicks like it wants to turn over but nothing happens. This couldn't of happened in the worse please, not at home & have no tools to tinker around with stuff lol
I know you are probably by yourself but if you could get someone to turn the key to start and you peck on the starter with a hammer it might turn right over.If it does I am sure the brushes are bad or more worn internal parts.

Had this problem a few months back and checked out everything I could think of....Batts...connections, fender and starter solenoid, starter, grounds. Then I read about changing out the wiring harness from the batts down to the starter as wearing out. I looked very closely at the small wire going to the starter and connections and wire was very green.... hence... not contacts. I sprayed the wiring with electrical cleaner and got all of the corrosion off and bent the connector and wiring back and forth to get a better connection... No more 'clicking' not starts since July.
Where you at? Maybe one of us is close enough to lend a wrench...
Worse comes to worse get towed to the closest parts house that has a replacement in stock and change it out in their parking lot. Ive had to do that a few times in my beast.
They usually even have loaner tools.

Thanks :0). I was able to get my hands on a set of wheels so I ran & grabed some tools & pulled the starter off. I brought it to Oriley's & when they put it on the test bench it hung up for a couple seconds then broke loose. I just went ahead & picked up a new one, only $160 with lifetime warranty. My truck has been slow starting from the start so hopefully this will solve my issues

get an OEM, I have an orielly starter on my 7.3, I take it back and have them replace it about once a year. Its getting old cause it seems to go during winter

Yes I did keep the core. What would it cost to get it rebuilt?

You will have to go to a local re-builder (or do it yourself). Depends on what it the matter. If it is just the brushes that are worn or need adjustment.... cheap and easy to do. If other issues, a little more. What you paid for in the 'new/o'reilly rebuilt' you could have done it for the same cost and have a better starter. Can you take the o'reilly one back. I would if I could.
