2000 F350 4x4 7.3 120,000 miles, fan clutch went out when towing and trans got hot around 220+ degrees limped the truck home. After the overheat oil was discolored with slight burnt smell, truck developed a more than normal delay in reverse engagement all the time. When towing under load I also get a delayed hard shift into third with an immediate converter lockup dropping my RPMs way down this is intermittent. After the overheat I did a service on the trans oil and filter normal gunk around the magnet no chunks or metal bits. under normal driving (not towing) trans shifts and runs great solid shifts no slipping, but always has the reverse delay about twice as long as what was normal before the overheat. when towing pulling a hill and on the throttle 3rd gear will knock your teeth out, the shift happens around 3000rpm - 3200rpm then the converter locks up and RPMs drop to around 1500rpm - 1700rpm and I loose all towing power. If I'm easy on the throttle flat ground I can get a normal shift patten most of the time. i understand that reverse and 3rd share the same clutch pack, would a solenoid be causing the problem or is the clutch pack fried and its time for a rebuild?
