Question Steering Column angle/crooked ?

Not sure if im loosing my mind or over thinking this, just dont want to continue unless its correct, putting steering column back in, no matter how i try to pull on it while im tightening bolts, i end up with a 1/4" off angle and its noticeable to me and there's really no way to adjust it so im not sure how its doing this, so if you sit in the drivers seat and look down its not straight, when measuring off the dash its around a 1/4" off to the left and im stumped... but it does point straight to the steering box, which as you know is off angle coming off the frame, im a crazy here? was thinking when i had it in the vice maybe i tweeked the mounting flanges, but even then that should be an up and down problem not what im seeing....

No you are not crazy....Take a dremel and cut out a 1/4" out of the metal collar slits/grooves, that the bolts go thru. Wala.

That was one of my first thoughts, just went back and looked again cuz i just cant quit and enjoy my evening.... gonna loosin up the clamp again that sits after the firewall and loosin up those 3/8" screws that hold the plate that holds the rubber boot and see if any of that gives me any more wiggle room... But making some more room for the bolt outta work just nice !

And if by chance you run outa bolt head grip room, weld a washer on the end of the slit, if the 1/4 removed was all you had or make it to close to the end to tighten.

Beer me.

Thanks Rich, your usually the source that brings me back to common sense after i overthink something for a few hours.... time for a cocktail and bbq duty ! Tell ya what this steering column has been a chore, and theres still somethings i might go back and do over, not all that happy with the shifter handle movement, I cleaned and used the old springs, but the kit came with one new spring that didnt match up so i didnt use it, now im a thinkin i should have... or the notch on my 45 year old handle is just worn out...
