Intermittent starting problems

i don't know if same problem but my 2006 5.4 sometimes turns over by key and ignition switch but once in awhile just the dash lights/instrumentation lights ,radio etc turns on but does'nt even click or tuen over , ( no connection to solenoid, changed starter and solenoid and thought that was the problem for sure, because the inside of solenoid had alot of movement when turn inside casing. apparently not that so i ran a wire from solenoid and just touch the pos post on battery and fires up fine with key turned in on position.i have to do this just once in awhile. will run awire from solenoid to a swictch inside cab and one to the battery to the switch. tried to drill a hole in firewall but man is that metal tough, broke 2 drill bits . have to get better quality bit.
