Prior oil change and upper oil pan seal change I had metallic non-magnetic shavings in the oil pan and drain pan. Almost 3K miles later I got an oil sample along with another oil change. No shavings in the drain pan. But tin content is high. Where is the tin coming from, any ideas?.
google say tin ( as part of solder) is used on cooler joints and can leach into fluids
so oil cooler is one place where oil comes in contact with oil.
the info says usually an indication of high acid levels.
I know you have almost 3k on the oil, but me personally would just drain and replace the oil.
cost of oil cooler vs cost of oil makes this a no brainer to me.
there is no acid number in the oil sample result......my guess is if there was....more folks would abandon trying to extend there drain interval and just put the oil sample money towards new oil.
I drive high stop and go so I come under severe duty and rarely does my oil make it to 3k miles.
