Picked up a 2000 F150 7700 with only 69k miles. It hasn’t ran since last fall per the people I got it from. We got it back to the house, it would turn over. Sprayed some starter fluid through the throttle body and it would run. We removed the bed and installed a new pump assembly and new fuel filter that in the frame rail. Still will not start just cranks over. Checked the reset button passenger side in the cab, it’s not tripped. Checked all fuses and relays none look blown/bad. Checked the schrader valve on the fuel rail, and have pressure there. It’s like the injectors are getting a signal to come on or something. Tested it again and it will start right up with starter fluid. Any ideas?
One thing we just discovered, the key that came with the truck is not the original and is just bare metal. Did the 2000 model year come with the P.A.T.S. system requiring the chip in the key?

Yes it did, but it's possible they defeated the system by placing the head of the chip key under the dash to fool the PATS into thinking the key is always present.

Good point. That key would have to be tucked right under the ignition cylinder for that trick to work. Just my experience using a dummy key.
OP, what pressure were you getting with key on/engine off (obviously, you can’t get a reading with engine running)? Pushing on that schrader valve alone tells you nothing, so if that’s all you did for that diagnostic test, the fuel pump may have been fine.
Without the right chipped key, there is a good chance they bought this without keys and it’s never been run and omitted that fact. A digital odometer F150 will have PATS.
