Light switch

my light switch is really hot to the touch. The back/side, not the actual pull. Is this normal? If not, is the switch going out?

did you have your headlights on? the power for the headlights on these trucks runs through the headlight switch and is known to melt the switch or connector

After further research, I ordered a updated light harness from Amazon. My reading indicates that the harness will have the lights no longer pull power through the switch, but through relays instead.

Good plan. I don't know what Ford was thinking running the headlight current through the switch. Wanted to save a couple bucks I guess.

According to this guy, it seems like it is very common, not only in Fords.

I am looking into doing this upgrade, since reading this article.

True that, I think all the manufacturers did it up until very recently.

Just a FYI, the harness I ordered on Amazon came with faulty one-off relays. I contacted customer service with no response. I started a return, but they only take returns if it’s returned in the original packaging….which I trashed. 😡.

I got a different dash switch from the JY that is in good shape. I’ll run that until I make time to modify the aftermarket harness.

Don’t order it from Amazon!

The bronco graveyard harness is the same as the putco harness off of amazon and uses the same cheap relays. You can get spares from amazon or JBG as well
