Got to wondering how many have a stick(standard) shift or auto? I had a Cummins with a 5 speed stick and it was just so cool. With back issues I'm not able to use one anymore but would if I could.
I had a 99 7.3 with the ZF6 & hated it. Why the hell is reverse all the way to the left & up??? Hat a lot of trouble with the clutch as well. I've also had a big block with a ZF5 & really liked that transmission
Not sure this should be in the 6.0 forum, both because it might interest everyone (as we see here) and because there are so few 6.0s with a stick, I expect. Damn, a tuned 250 with a stick would be a lotta fun though.
From what I understand, the manuals can be tough to pull loads on hills because of the lag to build boost between shifts, whether up or down. I've never driven a 6.0L manual, but I did own a 2018 RAM 3500 Cummins with the G56 6-speed manual. (I miss that truck). Power output was not drastically different than my 6.0L truck; the RAM was making 350HP and 660lb-ft and had a 3.73 rear end. I loved driving the stick, but towing a heavy load up a hill was never ideal. If you selected too high a gear and couldn't pull the hill, you'd downshift and in the time it took to clutch, change down a gear, and then release the clutch...the truck would lose boost and you might find you now were not carrying enough speed to pull the hill even in that lower gear. I generally learned to pick the lower gear and just run the hill slower. And the RAM produced 660lb-ft at 1400RPM, not 570lb-ft at 2000 RPM. The 6.0L is responsive, but it produces peak power and torque a little higher than other diesels.
