I made an adjustment on the equilizer and the way home was so easy. 70 with cruise control 80% of the way. I've never been able to use cc before so that was a big shock
I left it in 5th as it seemed happier there with RPMs around 2k.
I was pretty excited when I got home how less stressed I am compared to the past where I got pushed around the road, watching temps on coolant/trans but not on this trip.
The travel trailer is a tad nose up. I have to order a longer down shank to get the nose a bit lower. I'm sure that will make it even easier which is crazy.
Thanks guys!
not sure why you needed to keep it in 5th. I cruise with my 17k fifth wheel at 70mph and rarely, only when on a fairly steep grade, will it shift down.

Good to know! I'll try that next time. Not sure if it's due to my 3:31 rear end maybe
It just takes empirical research. Also, try manual 6th with cruse control and see how it handles it. Just don't let RPMs get too low otherwise it's a big hit dragging weight when the TCM makes the decision to drop to 5th or stall (it is exhaust smoking quite a bit by that point up to the DPF).
I have 3.31 gears and lock out 6th on 55 MPH rolling hills (where I do most of my 7k lbs towing), otherwise it's constant downshift, upshift, repeat over and over if I have it in D. 6th would be more effective at 70 MPH though. Generally I just use manual mode and go to 6th in the flat areas and keep it in 5th for the hills and curves, the turbo absorbs the hills.

I also have 3.31 gears which i bought thinking of all the highway mileage that i do drive. My truck is happy at 1700 rpms in 6th. Yes, it will drag down a bit when hitting an incline but seldom shifts out of 6th until hitting the mountains. I ran the cruise almost all of the way from Fort worth to Daytona pulling my TJ on an open trailer. Tow mode engaged, fart button pushed, cruise control on and my playlist playing through the bluetooth to give background music to me and my wife visiting because the ride is so casual. Seriously, these thing takes the stress out of driving. I like to find those long open spots on the road where there is plenty space between vehicles and just let it run. I like the Ford mirrors as you can pull them out when needed to see around the camper and push them back in easily when not towing. I did change my shocks to the Bilstein's to ease the bumps. I went from 17 inch wheels with 31 inch tires to 20" wheels with 34 inch tires which even further lowers the rpms at speed. Sorry this is so random, had a few things going on while typing this post
Freshened up the transmission fluid today 8qt. Waiting on filter but went ahead and will do again in 10k miles. Will also do transfer case soon with the extra av. Micron UV? Is that the recommended fluid for TC and transmission?
Also did the high idle mod.
Carfax shows rear diff and coolant changes (tested with strips although I didn't have contamination strips). Verified that I have the sealed CV unit checked for Amy crankcase pressure which I have none. Fuel filters were supposedly changed when I purchased from dealer but contemplating doing them to know for sure.
What else should I look at doing soon? Going to switch to optilube XPD which looks like but can be used all year.
Really excited to camp again. First trip was absent of stress when driving! Looking forward to shopping for something bigger (5th wheel)

Any suggestion is appreciated!
The transfer case used to take XL12 fluid. No longer made. Superseded by Mercon LV.
I want to do the high idle mod also. Your parking brake wasn't froze up huh? That's my biggest concern when I do it.
My transfer case took just over 2 qts of Mercon LV. I've done it when I've done the trans. I figure since I was there, why not? Fluid is cheap maintenance.

Parking break is good. I'll knock it out TC with leftovers soon
My OCD is driving me up the wall with this rattle noise (sounds just like a pinging gas engine which is probably why it is bugging me so much). Ford owes me an oil change. I think I might use the opportunity to add the fumoto valve and use some T6 or another highly recommended. Something synthetic
