Believe it or not the Cyanlabs updater - which creates a thumbdrive used to update the sync system - is pretty darn straightforward to use. You will have a drop down box that will allow you to select the version (in my case I used one recommended by user F150chief at the forum, 3.4.19274.
Basically, you need to download the updater program at https://cyanlabs.net/applications/syn3-updater/
Install it. Then you need to specify your sync system - nav (yes or no), region (north america or na), location of the downloaded files, whether you will update/downgrade grace notes, etc.
The documentation is found at the same location.
My dealer replaced some module as well. System worked for two or three restarts before quitting.
There is a Technical Service Bulletin related to the issue - think it is specified somewhere in this thread. Basically instructs the ford technician to create a downgrade disk (not sure what version they go back to). Just have to make sure automatic updates is disabled in any case.
I did the cyanlabs update/downgrade once. Worked for a few days and then quit - looked at version and it was back to current even though I thought I had turned off automatic updates. Repeated the process, verifying auto updates is off before and after the process and it has held sense (over a month ago).
This is one of my threads over at cyanlabs. https://community.cyanlabs.net/t/re-...el-link/3255/5
cool yeah i looked at my version this AM and it was 3.4 21098. Then on my drive to work this morning travel link was working. I laughed. I saw the TSB. What sort of confuses me with cyan labs is the map update or whatever DAB is? Or gracenote update etc. truck is only 4 months old for me and i have messed with some minor settings using forscan. Maybe because there is that TSB from May (dealer was messing with it in April) there might be a software fix coming down the line. I saw in the cyan lab forums that they have a 3.4 21194, that has not been pushed to my truck yet. Everything else is working in the sync, album art, station art, etc except the travel link (every so often) so i don’t want to mess any of that up just to get travel link perfect. With the 3.4 21098 i have notice travel link work more frequently.

My current update, I chose not to modify any of the other functions such as gracenotes, maps, etc. Simply the core program (sync 3.4). Prior to this update, my travel link functions were sporadic as well. I like the weather and the sports functions, so I went ahead and did the update/downgrade and that stabilized the travel link environment for me. They had updated the syn3 updater between my efforts and the current version took me a few minutes to get to understand, but it was an improvement of the previous version.
Of course, you can go the dealer route and push for them to use the downgrade version found in the TSB. My dealer offered to do such, but I had already; done my cyanlabs update and was happy with it. I will be checking the ford owner site from time-to-time to see if there is a newer version available. I will keep my downgrade thumbdrive handy if I do try a Ford released upgrade.

is what the dealer does with the universal thumb drive actually downgrading or is it a firmware update for the ApIM? The TSB reads like it’s a firmware update not a sync downgrade?? I emailed the TSB to my sales guy to have the service department see if their electronics tech has this thumb drive because he didn’t have anything like that in April 2 weeks after Ingot the truck.

My understanding is the Ford resolution is actually only a downgraded on Sync firmware. I say this based on the person I dealt with over at Cyan Labs who seemed to be very familiar with the TSB. From him:For SiriusXM, the issue starts with the 3.4.21020 update. Sirius Travel Link issues have existed before this TSB and are also addressed in previous TSB releases. TSB 21-2150 rolls back to 3.4.20136 using the “Sync 3 Universal Thumb Drive”, although 3.4.20351 also fixes the Sirius issues specifically. Sync 3.4.20351 can be installed using the Syn3 Updater in autoinstall mode.
There is no update past 3.4.20351 that corrects the SiriusXM/Travel Link issues, although 3.4.21098 has worked for some, and other users have not experienced any issues. Sending a SiriusXM refresh signal will not fix the issue.

yeah i have 3.4.21098 and travel link still barely works maybe every 5-6 restarts. So still not fixed!
Not sure if this applies to F150 - pretty sure it does - but it appears the latest release from Ford for my new-to-me, replaced-my-f150, F250 is v3.4.21194 and my contact at Cyanlabs says it is supposed to resolve the travel link issue. There is a post in the super duty section indicating such as well.

well I noticed today that the travel link was working in my f250 after every restart.. surprised me a huge amount. I had not gotten around to do the cyanlabs thing yet. I notice an update pushed the other day, and it looks like another one went this afternoon. and its verson 3.4.21194, either way I will not hold my breath but will keep watching it. if it keeps working I might turn off auto updates so it doesn't get messed up again..

I have not decided whether I want to simply download the latest update from ford owner site and install myself or see if the truck does it on its own.
