I have a 1952 ford f3 truck and am looking to replace the original 700-17 tires with something newer. What size tire can I use and still keep the original wheels?
Are you sure they're not WMs? They are very deceptive. They don't have the outer snap rings like most multi-part wheels. Look for a band on the inside of the wheel. If they are stock Ford they are WMs. Best thing to do is swap out the rear axle with a pre-'73 F-250 axle. Better gearing and easier to find parts.
thanks for the info.
not planning on changing anything at this time. would like to use the truck this summer as I collect parts to swap over at a later time
Very dangerous to use and work on. Not worth sticking money into new tires for them. Much better off addressing the problem now than later and spending more money but it's your truck but please don't park the truck near anyone else.

Contact your local tire store and ask what options they have for 17" tires that fit 1952 Ford truck rims? See if they will even work on them?
Since the truck is a 1952 the most sensible solution is to find a set of 16” pre-1997 F-250 rims, or van rims up to the change to the Transit model. The 1952 F-3s have 12” Bendix rear brakes which accept 16” wheels just fine. Then buy a set of common 235/85R16” tires and call it done. Stu
