back up assist limitations

I tow a 31 foot (actual trailer length) travel trailer once a month. I have towed stuff for years, but wanting to play with the back up assist. I set it up on my car hauler, but have not used it yet. If I recall correctly, is not 31 feet too long for the system?
Looked for answers prior to posting. Most view the system as cumbersome at best, but might come in handy if I need to get someone else in the family to do this from time-to-time.

Maybe I did something wrong, but when I set it up on my 2016, it was useless. I can’t see how it works if you can’t see behind a trailer. If you have no idea what’s behind you (the trailer) because you can’t see, what good is it? With my flatbed, eh, okay. I’m old school.been dragging trailers too long. No issues with trailers from 8 foot to 40 feet. They go where I put em. I, on the other hand, am looking for reasons to add it to my next truck. Can’t find one.

I only played with mine for an hour with my flatbed. Using the **** seemed real twitchey, but I did like that when you released the **** it backed perfectly straight.

Works Ok if you are headed more or less in the right direction to start. I find if you have to back up in a right angle turn to hit the centre of a loading dock or door, it doesn't help much. If you can't see behind the trailer you don't know if you are lined up. When I go to back up onto planks on the ground to store the trailer I have to get out to check the alignment. Not hard to set it up if you ignore the order it tells you to do things in and use common sense.

Haven't used the **** and never will. Backing a trailer i s easy with one simple trick. grasp the BOTTOM of the steering wheel and move it the direction you want the trailer to go, No remembering which way to turn the top and you remain more upright and can see through the mirrors better. People are depending to much on technology to do a task. You can't just use the backup camera when moving backwards even without a trailer. I watched a lady hang up on the Cart Corral because she was looking at just the camera screen,

I don't have that gadget on my truck but I can tell you this. That ****, I bet, is a whole lot twitchier than the steering wheel. A tiny tweak of the **** could send the trailer onto your bumper a whole lot faster than a tweak on the wheel.

I don't think I will rely on it. Been backing up and towing trailers for many years and used to relying on my sideview mirrors along with with rear mounted camera on my RV. But, still, would like to mess with the system.
I know about relying on cameras. My relied on hers in her Expy and caught the side of the truck on another vehicle in a parking lot many moons ago.
Will say, low slung trailers like my car-hauler when its empty provides me challenges from time-to-time when backing into places other than straight shots back.
