How hot does the exhaust get during regen with the stock exhaust pipe/tips? I recently built a fuel can rack for my crawler trailer and now question if this was a bad idea? The cans won't be full going cross-country but will be stored there even when empty. I've seen pics of melted trailers due to aftermarket exhaust.

Well exhaust temp aside, I would double check your weld integrity. Those racks are not secure to the deck and some road flex will pop those welds. I see lots of porosity in those.

Yeah, the wind got after us on a couple of those welds, but the racks aren't going any where.

Under Regen exhaust temp is aroun 1100 to 1200 degrees. The stock exhaust tips are designed to inject air into the stream to cool it, none the less plenty of super hot exhaust gas exiting under heavy loads or Regen. Other side of trailer might be better.

My 2020 F350 SRW all stock other than a leveling kit routinely hits high 1300° when I tow my 13,000 lbs horse trailer up 7% grades

Regen or not, plan on as posted the max EGT's under any condition and that would be in the 1300 range.

Time for the grinder and move the fuel cans to the other side and you will be fine.

There is no possible scenario I could imagine where those fuel cans are in danger while driving down the road. During an OCR I have measured temps in the 900 degree range at the tailpipe but while driving with the wind diluting that I couldn't ever imagine those cans getting that much heat.

That's what I was thinking. If the exhaust was hot enough to damage the fuel cans wouldn't it also damage the truck itself? Or another vehicle traveling in the right lane next to the truck?

My "rock tamers" have never been melted while towing. Neither has my travel trailer or enclosed trailer. And I can stand 5' away from my exhaust during an OCR without getting uncomfortable.

You are good unless something stupid goes wrong, like a stuck injector. now this was a 6.4, but Ford still injects on the exhaust stroke, so it is possible.

BTW my truck was not in a Active Regen at the 1364° shown on the Edge CTS above. The little green regen light is not lit up.
Although at this temp, I suspect the system is well into a Passive Regen.
Ford designed the exhaust tip to help diffuse the heat during regen. (Dual tips with holes)
