Recently sold a 3rd gen PW to start a fund for a new SD 250. The PW was a good looking, and capable HD rig but there were some things on it that were so flimsy and cheap. But the 2 main reasons that I sold it were terrible gas mileage and RUST.
The 5.7 gasser got an avg of 9 mpg combined city and hwy driving. I couldnt imagine what it would achieve if I towed anything of signifagence with it. With the standard 4.88 rear it was quick off the line but would whine on the hiways.
And the rust issue. WHOA. Not sure what they used to undercoat this rig but I doubt it will last another 10 yrs the rate at which everything underneath was corroding from the northeast winter road salts.
The wench on the front was real neat. But truth be told I only used it a handful of times and they were not to rescue the truck from being stuck somewhere. Not sure I will opt for the wench on the SD since 3K is alotta wood for it.
Don't sweat the winch. One can be added to any SD for about $400 (plus the winch of your choice) in the future. Front receiver hitch, winch cradle, and some wiring.
