I have noticed that the MBRP and the HOG exhaust from Motorhaven both have the exhaust tip leaving the truck at a 45 degree angle. The factory exhaust is angled at a 90 degree angle. I am concerned that the 45 degree version will tend to deposit soot on the front of my trailer when towing. The 90 degree stock angle will tend to push it out away from the front of the trailer. Apparently I can get a HOG exhaust with something called a "sideout" tip that is angled at 90 degrees like stock, but is only 5 1/2 ", not the standard 6" tip. Any one have any comments about this one way or the other?
Side out or 45 degree output, by the time your exhaust exits, the turbulance running under and past the truck is still going to take what minimal soot there is from a diesel exhaust back to the trailer forward corner anyway. The neat thing about that is that it's further back than just the "paint" above the stock pipe exit that the soot is all dried up by then. That's where the stain comes from is because the exhaust is still wet at it exits the pipe. By the time the airborns are aft of the truck. It's either evaporated or dry. I don't think you're going to notice one way or the other by which tip/angle you install. You may still get some discoloration, but you'd get it even if you had the 90 degree pipe exit. And if you're getting a lot of soot, then you're probably over fueling the engine.
I agree with Jack, I pull an enclosed car trailer quite a bit and I have an MBRP cat back exhaust. I have not noticed any "soot" on the r/f side of the trailer at all. I dont run any kind of tuner and the truck is stock with the exception of the exhaust system. I try to clean the trailer after I tow so I havent noticed any discoloration. But the exhaust should not have any heavy soot deposits unless there is some sort of overfueling either by the PCM or a tuner. So I say go with the MBRP system you will be happy... I am.
