I have been chasing a smokey truck for a year now. The truck is a 2000 F250 7.3 rebuilt motor, new injectors(ad code) stock airbox stock exhaust. The truck smoked before I rebuilt the motor too.
With no tune I can get the truck to smoke no problem...not heavy smoke but enough that I notice it and it makes the quarter panel sooty.
Is it possible that my truck has the IDM mod done and I dont know it? Is there a way to check without pulling the fender off and looking inside the IDM?
If you have no drive pressure leaks, I'd be more inclined to say that a previous owner flashed the PCM with an aftermarket calibration and left it there at sale time ...that is if you can't find a chip or a glorified "10K-mod"-type device installed.
Am I correct to assume a chip like DP or PHP style that plugs into the PCM will overwrite anything that was possibly flashed onto the PCM by the previous owner?
