Where would I find the water temp probe location on the block for a Auto meter gauge I have? Cant use location neat thermostat ,probe too long.. thank you!
Where would I find a location on block for engine coolant probe for a auto meter gauge????
I assume you are talking about the 7.3. Your truck water temp probe for the dummy gauge on the dash is on top of the water pump. If you want to add a separate probe for another gauge you can do that on the side of the water pump below the thermostat housing. Look for the thread in fitting and remove it. I believe if I remember correctly you will need about a 3/8 Allen wrench to do it..
I installed in the coolant filter housing I got from Riff Raff Diesel. I think you could install it in the water pump plug...I don’t remember how long the probe is though.
It seems Colorado350 used the 3rd port on his coolant filter housing and that is what he is recommending you do. It appears you do not have this filter system and so the option of using the housing is not possible.
Here is a picture of his installation as a visual aid.
In that same thread, SkySkiJason says the following about installing a coolant temperature sensor.

That said, the only reason to add an aftermarket coolant temp gauge is if the stock gauge doesn’t work at all. We can easily use EOT as a gauge to monitor if the engine is up to operating temp and if there is a problem with cooling system. Monitor EOT with OBD2 using tools like Scangauge2, ForScan, etc.
