I have a 51 Ford F3 V8 and was wondering if anyone had some photos on how the battery cables are properly installed.
I am leaving it 6V and its positive ground.
Any photos that show the best ground point, negative to solenoid & solenoid to starter, etc.
Also, what are the best cables to use and would be the best place to buy them.
Much appreciated.
Flipper,
I don't kjnow much about 48-52 trucks but others will be along soon to show you pictures.
But this I know. Make sure the new cables are 00 gauge or some say 1 gauge welding cables are big enough. I get mine made at a local auto electric shop. Some buy them on ebay.
Good, clean ground connections are extremely important, especially on 6V applications. Be sure your grounds have a circle path from battery to engine block, to chassis/frame, and to cab body. Using a bell housing bolt near the starter for the battery connection is a good place to start. Having a second cable from that point to the frame rail grounding engine to chassis is good, then a cable from the frame to the body should suffice. Again, all of these connections need to be free of paint and corrosion.
I have my 51 f1 (using 6v positive ground) I’m in the process of building grounded from battery positive to the engine at one of the intake manifold bolts and a ground strap from intake to cab firewall as of right now I do plan to go from bell housing to frame and cab to bed in future hope this helps
