My 96 f150 (4.9/e4od:OBD2) has been starting off in 2nd gear. Everything else works fine with transmission.
Transmission throws codes P0713 (Trans Temp Sensor) & P1711, even when the trans temp is cold. Not sure if its related to starting off in 2nd gear.
The trans/truck has the following "new" parts:
-new MLPS/TPS/VSS/3rd brake light bulb
-new wiring harness connectors on MLPS & Solenoid Pack.
-Cleaned all the trucks grounds and connectors going from the ECU to the trans with CRC Contact Cleaner
-Did a few complete "battery resets" by taking terminals off of battery & holding them together for 5 minutes.
-Thoroughly went through the entire trans harness, connections, & ECU looking for any obvious damage, corrosion or burns. But nothing obvious was found.
-If I put the shifter into "1", the engine labors & the truck doesn't move (it feels like it's trying to start off in 3rd or 4th).
-If I put it in "2", it feels like 2nd.
-If I put it in "D", it uses 2,3 & 4 like normal. But never shifts fully down to 1st, even when at a complete stop.
-If I put it in "R", reverse works fine.
-Solenoid pack was replaced about 2,000 miles ago with a used one to cure a delayed engagement issue.
Any help on how to diagnose why its starting in 2nd gear would be appreciated. Thanks.
Not an accumulator spring, but the 1-2 shift valve could be stuck.
Thanks.
Is that a common problem on 1996 e4od? If so, is it because of bore issues or debris? I'm asking because I want to make sure I can get locally any special parts or tools I might need when I pull the accumulator body off.
