Trans issues

3 speed trans, infos in sig

Was doing 2900 rpms on the freeway today (58mph or so) and all of a sudden 3rd gear sounded like it gave out and the truck shot into second. the engine redlined but i slowed down before any damage. I dont think the trans blew but am no expert on the trans. It wouldnt shift back into 3rd but was fine in 1st and second. Temp was just fine on engine and tranny. I just got the damn thing running too (new starter, alternator, voltage regulator, re wired, etc) Whats your thoughts? what would be the first place to look? Thanks - Joe

Its an x u-haul. I have already counted the bolts and confirmed a c6. some said its kinda rare to have a 90' with a c6 but u haul used it in trying to limit speed on these vehicles. Im thinking somethings wrong with vacuum? wheres the vacuum unit located? Is there any way to test for leaks? can i run smoke through the lines to try and pinpoint a leak? Which line would cause 3rd gear to just give out? Hmmm - thanks for the input so far. Ill try the 3rd gear manually tomorrow (this actually puts it in third? sorry stupid question! lol)

everything is working fine, tach, gauges, and it never had a problem.

Fluid is great. nice and red.Doesnt look or smellburnt. miles in sig ... This just doesnt seem like a internal trans issue. Seems like it lost vacuum and slipped outta gear, the vacuum isnt there to throw it back into 3rd now. Maybe v pump lost some power and can only run 1,2 . Dont kno much about the vacuum system

Worth a shot! Ill pick some up tomorrow. From doing some research, vacuum runs on belt. Has common issues with vacuum lines rubbing and going bad.

That would be the first thing I would check. Alternator and vacuum pump belts.

What are your power brakes doing? are they affected at all?
