Sputtering in 3rd gear

Sputtering in 3rd gear
1991 F-150 302/E4OD
Truck accelerates fine through 1st and 2nd gear. When it gets to 3rd, it will sputter, kind of acting like its misfiring. Take my foot off the gas, hit it again and then it accelerates normally. Only does it in 3rd gear. Trans was rebuilt so I'm hoping it's not a trans issue. Any idea on causes? No codes.

I will check it but how would that relate to this? If it's a fuel issue, wouldn't it do this issue in every gear and not just a particular one?
