I am trying to reinstall my drivers side vent window. After installing a new window seal, (the old one was OE and was crumbling apart.) I can not get it in even using the manual's instructions. What happens the rubber seal gets stuckn in the upper corner while you are rotating and trying to push in the vent window and frame forward. Once it gets stuck, it is pure HELL to pull it back out, and you tear the edges of the new seal. I have tried lubing the seals with silicone and Lubriplate and still have the same problems. Any tips?
So far no go even with the soapy water. Is the upper channel supposed to be narrower? Seems like the verticle channel meaures almost 5/8". But it narrows 3/64" right at the upper corner to a width of 37/64". Which is the same width of the frame around the window without the weather stripping. So I can see now why I am having issues. Just not sure what to do about it.
I'm not sure what it where exactly you mean. Can you show us a picture?
Thats a great idea Abe! 5/8 inch here in the vertical part of the door glass run. 39/64 going into the corner 37/64 now past the corner So this is what I am dealing with. The vent frame will not rotate all the way into the run without getting caught in the upper left on its own weather seal and then it rips while you are trying to push and turn it in all the way. Without the vent seal the frame is 37/64 " wide, same as the runs' width, so I can see how the frame is getting caught and hung up.
Any suggestions? Try to use wood wedges to spread it sligtly for a better fit? Use a heat gun with gentle heat?
I think I might of solved the mystery about this....maybe. The outside support frame is twisted. And at the top where the pivot goes. That bent on me the other day trying to wrestle this thing out of the door. The glass actually pulled out on me and that top bent like a paper clip. So I tried to bend it back, and its not quite right, so I got to look for another one and order a new seal. Might just have to buy the whole assembly.
I hate it when I am trying to fix or improve something and then ending up breaking something else!😖
