If you have a 2wd and stock size tires and no lift, I’d be afraid anything lower than the Curt could have a tendency to scrape the ground going out of driveways. I’m even scraped mine once. They hang pretty low!
Old thread revival. I have a guy installing the Curt hitch today, he is having to drop the tank for access and remove the bolts, I am glad I got someone else to do it. At least it is not a rusty Northern truck.
BTW, he also owns an Excursion.
My shop has the hitch and springs installed, will pick the truck up tomorrow.
My buddy said he had to remove the tank and rear bumper, and torch the security bolts off, induction heater would not do it. Once the old hitch was down he and 2 other guys had to lift it up and install it. All bolts torqued and locktited. Then it took the three of them to wrestle the tank up and in and get it bolted back. I am glad I did not try this on the ground.
The springs went in fine, just heavy. she sits a little higher in the back but plenty of ground clearance for the hitch on a 2WD.
