Hello everyone, I'm a newbe and just bought a 1952 F1, so excited. My wipers don't work. They are the vacuum type and I need to know is it worth it to repair them? Is the time expenditure the same? I've watched all the u-tube videos (I am very handy, even built my own tiny house on a trailer) and it does not look difficult to replace with a new one.
If memory serves, rebuilding a vacuum motor costs about $100. There is a guy in New York that some of us have used and would recommend. Laying on your back reaching up working up under your dash with the wiring and heater hoses interfering with what you are trying to do is never pleasant (being handy not withstanding), but I wish you well. And welcome!
Jim
ps If you go to my profile page, you will see a thread documenting my experience with stock vacuum wipers. Unlike you, I am not handy and experienced difficulties not usually encountered by our more experienced and talented members.

Look up Fricken wiper service. They do a flat rate rebuild of the motor,, it used to be $100 but it’s gone up.
Hi Liteworker, I am lucky to have electric wipers in both my trucks so I can't help you. But I want to welcome you to FTE the best Ford truck Forum on the World Wide Web!

Good luck
I had Ficken do my vac motor 5 years ago and they are still working great
52 was the first year that electric wipers were an option I believe or maybe it was 51 and by 52 they were standard. My 52 has vacuum wipers, Ive been told probably because it was an early 52. So if you wanted to keep it stock and switch to electric you could. The motor was made by Bosch the switch was in the same position. I might eventually switch over. Although I distrust anything electrical on the truck with its original 6 volt system. Besides, I kinda like the way the wipers crap out going up hill in the rain on a curvy road!
Wow, what a great group!!. Everyone is so kind and helpful. I pick my '52 up in a week but before I can get it the wipers need to be working. I am getting a New Port Engineering's 1952 Ford Truck Wiper Motor that replaces the factory vacuum wiper. It is only about $240. Not bad. I'm driving it from Michigan to California. Yay!!
Love "Old Betsy" and "Jimmy" , too cool. I have to figure out how t post a picture. The one I tried was HUGE.
Thanks again, Vicki
