Has anyone ever tried to conect a canister in series with the vacuum for the windshield wipers to prevent the vacuum loss on acceleration ? I plan on connecting a 1 Gal paint bucket (Air tight with JB weld) to see if it will hold enough vacuum back pressure to sustain the wiper motor.
Will this work or should I just go with a 12v motor ?
Geeze. Do you have to use a paint can? There's gotta be a junk yard with a late model vehical that has one of those plastic vacuum ***** in it. It couldn't cost more than a couple of bucks and it would look a hell of a lot better! I'm cringing man! Never mind, it's just my opinion.
Don't forget to get the "3" way tee (check valve) when you get the vac can or ball. Without it, it won't fix the problem. If you can, get the plastic ball type. The metal cans tend to develop pin holes in them over time. If you don't find any in the junk yard, The local Ford dealer will stock it.
Vacuum wiper motors use a lot of air when new and a tremendous amount of air when old. No reasonably sized canister has enough storage capacity to do you any good. The best bet is conversion to electric. The 2 stage fuel pumps will help a lot with a vacuum motor (the 2nd stage is a vacuum booster). If this is a daily driver, all weather vehicle, then electric is the way to go.
