I apologize if I missed this topic in the search but couldn't find what I was looking for.
I've got a 92 F350 4x4 Crewcab that the transmission randomly slips out of gear after using the brakes. This only happens at slow speeds, the brake lights work it doesn't have a 3rd brake light it has the white light.
my post was for the more common E4OD .... but Mark is correct could be either.... I'm sure he can shed some more light on it too.
After researching the MLPS circuit the symptoms match up. It's definitely where I'm gonna start at. I knew the brake lights could cause issues but I've never heard of the MLPS circuit. First Ford I've owned.... Thanks for the help. I'll update once I change it out.
Personally I would do some diagnostic troubleshooting before I just toss new parts at it...
99% of the time I would strongly agree with you. But this time I don't. As the MLPS wears it starts to act up and cause the problem that he is describing. The problem is that it is almost impossible to diagnose. He just needs to replace the MLPS.
The PCM can find a wiring problem and set a code. It can't find the bad MLPS, because to the PCM it looks like the driver moved the shift handle to N. It doesn't make sense to set a code when the driver shifts to N.

How hard do you need to press the pedal to get it to pop out of gear? What percentage of the time does braking cause it to pop out of gear? Do you need to move the shifter to get it to go back into gear?
Actually my script Ran a bit longer than I thought it would.... it was unintentional to remove these posts........... but it is what it is.....
The intent was to only Delete Copyrighted material that Violates your TOS had I allowed the script to continue it would have Removed ALL my posts.

when you say it pops out of gear does it go into say 3rd from OD or?? when my AOD was slipping in and out of OD through FTE i learned that brake light wiring does effect it as when the light comes on the TC disenages (iirc). so way back then i checked my wiring and cleaned it up a little and the problem went away....
