3rd Brake Light

Has anyone torn in to these 3rd brake lights and/or put an earlier model light in that included the cargo lamps?

Do a search. I believe that the answer was that they are "plug & play". Let us know what you find.

I would think they are too, as long as the wires are there. I don't remeber anyone talking about a change in the shape of the cab.

Hmm... ok, well maybe I'll try swapping my buddies with mine just to see if it works. That would save me some hassle right there.

That's pretty cool Diabolic, now if it just had the cargo lights.... I just can't believe they eliminated those, especially on the FX4 package. -=< FORD!!!! >=-

Well I tore mine off this evening to find that the housing has room for the bulbs and are fixtured to accept them but the wiring just isn't there. Cruddy thing is that if you were to wire them in your cargo lights would be red unless you got an earlier model 3rd brake light. I don't think it'd be much of a hassle to wire though, just pop the dome light lose and shove the wiring in from the brake light side of things with a coat hanger or something and just tap in at the dome light. I may give it a go, not sure yet.

Even if you were to add it, where would you put the switch? Think it would be easy to put it where it SHOULD be? (Dimmer Switch)

Short of running and independent circuit & switch, you could get power from the dome light like you said. If you don't want the cargo light to come on every time you turn on the dome light, you can put a switch in between the dome & cargo light. Turning on the cargo light would then require turning on the dome light first. This way the cargo light won't be accidently left on.

Heck I'm not worried about the cargo light being on with the dome light, that's how a lot of them work anyway. If I tackle it I'll just go direct to the dome light and be done with it.
